About The Team

Our goal is to advance women's involvement in politics, whether at the federal, state, or local level. In order to achieve this, we are launching a fundraising team to raise funds to invest back into the American University WeLead program. Meet our fundraising team!

Danielle Casey is a Senior Principal Analyst on Gartner’s Emerging Technology and Trends team and has a background in defense and technology policy. She holds an M.A. from George Washington in International Affairs and is working on an M.S. in Science and Technology Studies from Virginia Tech. She volunteers with Aringlington Young Democrats as Caucus Co-Chair of the Veterans and Foreign Affairs Committee and as the Recruitment Director. She plans to use her experience at WeLead to become more involved in her community.

Jacqueline LaBayne is a Legal Assistant to the President of a prestigious Civil Litigation Law Firm located in Washington, DC. She holds a B.A from Florida Atlantic University in Political Science and a M.S. from Florida State University in Criminology. After receiving her Masters she moved to Washington to begin an internship with the United States Commission on Civil Rights. Through her social justice background, she co-founded a non-profit organization that organized the largest march in Washington in response to the murder of George Floyd. She assisted in raising over a quarter of a million dollars for bail across the country. She currently is a member of Junior League of the Greater Washington area and frequently volunteers with various organizations in the DC community. She is currently applying to law school in the hopes of becoming a civil rights attorney.

Andrea P. Medeiros is the Senior Director of Public Health and Policy for the Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation working to improve patient care through programs of public and clinician awareness, education, advocacy and research in osteoporosis and fractures. She is an active member of the American Public Health Association serving as Chair-Elect, as an Education Board member, and as the Program Planning Chair for the Public Health Education and Health Promotion (PHEHP) section.

Sheariah Yousefi is the Chief of Staff for a state delegate in central Maryland. With a background in educational policy and teaching, her career started in Washington, D.C. where she worked on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce during the reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act. From there, she spent several years teaching EFL in South Korea and recently returned to the states with her family. In addition to her day job, she actively engages in the DMV area by running a small business and serving as vice chair for the Harford County Young Republicans.

We thank you for supporting our cause at WeLead!

More Info

The Women & Politics Institute provides practical and academic training to women that encourages them to become involved in the political process and facilitates research by faculty and students that enhances our understanding of the challenges and opportunities women face in the political arena.

Only with your help can we offer more courses, enroll more students, train more young women to run for office, conduct more research, convene more special events, and ensure that women have a seat at all of the tables where the most important decisions are made.

Together, we will change the face of politics!
