Our brother and POA Alumni, Sithembiso Nkosi, left us much too soon in August 2016. This campaign is to honor his legacy of humility and compassion, and support the Nkosi family as they cope with the loss of their son.
Sithembiso—affectionately known to us as Sthe—was a part of the Pedagogy of Action family, starting from his first involvement in 2008. His presence and impact on the other group members was critical, as his intelligent reflections and observations guided us in our own learning. Regardless of how long each member knew Sthe, his impact was deep and long-lasting. His loss comes as a shock to us all, and it is mostly the loss of what he had left to give the world.
Our goal with this campaign is to give what we can to the Nkosi family in order to help them through this difficult time, as well as create some sort of memorial to him at his school, the University of Zululand. Please contribute what you can and share your stories of Sthe with friends and family to encourage their contributions, as well.
To learn about Sthe, you must also read his own work, which you can do here: http://bit.ly/2bVZVLR. This short piece is a reflection on his POA experience in South Africa in 2012. You can also watch his presentation at the 2015 Symposium in Durban here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=To0i-ZLZhvw.
